Become a Chapter Speaker
We invite women from a wide range of STEM professions to speak with middle and high school girls at our various chapters across the greater Denver area. As a guest speaker, you would do the following:
Share your experiences (10-20 min)†
The main goals of the presentation are for the girls to get to know you personally and understand what you do professionally, how you got there, and why it excites you. Topics can include (but are not limited to):
Your personal story / career path
Any obstacles you've faced
Current projects
Favorite part of your job
A mini-lesson on a specific topic within your area of expertise
Facilitate a hands-on activity (20-40 min)†
The goal of the activity is for the girls to 1) deepen their understanding of a topic in your field, while 2) building relationships with their peers and you as a mentor.
†Meeting length varies between chapters. Our programs coordinator will let you know the exact schedule for the chapter(s) you’ve been invited to speak at.
THE PROCESS
We collaborate with you to design the activity, which can range from a full-blown project or science experiment to a worksheet or interactive demonstration of tools used in your field. That being said, we respect your time and are happy to take on as much of the planning and/or preparation as needed.
INSPIRATION
In the past, we’ve:
built musical instruments / simple circuits / pressure sensors
observed cells under a microscope / properties of UV light
