Corporate STEMblazer of the Month: JE Dunn

We love working with STEMblazers and can't wait to see what we do in the future with this great organization! Callie Morris, JE Dunn.

This month, we interviewed Callie Morris, Senior Marketing Specialist at JE Dunn Construction, our fantastic and long-term corporate partner.

How does collaborating with STEMblazers help close the gender gap in STEM, and why is it important to JE Dunn?

JE Dunn recognizes the value of having a diverse group of well-rounded professionals to encourage innovation and creativity, so closing the gender gap and diversifying our employee base is critical to the vitality of our business and our community. It is important to have diversity in all forms to continually drive improvement and the more people that we have to offer a different way of thinking, the more positive change we will experience.

How do you feel STEMblazers aligns with JE Dunn's philanthropic goals?

We believe in serving others. Not only does JE Dunn contribute more than ten percent of our pre-tax earnings to charities all around the country, but our employees also spend time throughout the year volunteering with different organizations. Our purpose statement at JE Dunn is that "we exist to enrich lives through inspired people and places" and a primary source of that inspiration is garnered through our community engagement. Additionally, we take great pride and responsibility in growing the next generation of builders and STEMblazers aligns perfectly. Our employees are passionate about education and workforce development, especially if it involves opening doors and opportunities for young women to join the A/E/C industry.

How did JE Dunn first become involved with STEMblazers?

Our Chief Strategy and Client Experience Officer introduced us to STEMblazers a few years ago and it was perfect for our philanthropic goals! The organization aligns well with our commitment to workforce development. Our engagement started with hosting job site tours and attending STEMblazer events and we are now annual sponsors of the STEMblazers golf tournament.

In your opinion, if there was one woman representing a STEM field, industry, or "discovery" that our students should know, who would it be and why?

Barbara Jackson, Ph.D., DBIA, is the first woman to serve as the Director at the Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management for the University of Denver. She is an amazing role model for young women looking to go into a STEM career, specifically in the A/E/C industry. She was also awarded for the 2018 Outstanding Women in Business for the Denver Business Journal.

We extend our gratitude to JE Dunn for supporting STEMblazers.
