Inspiring Girls in STEM: End of the Summer Edition

Although the temperatures around the Denver metro area might be deceiving, the summer is officially coming to an end next week and it’s time for us at STEMblazers to reflect upon the experiences we provided to girls and young women, and the impact we made during this season.

This summer, we hosted Cherry Creek School District middle school students for a summer program exploring careers in Aerospace, Construction, Aviation, and Medicine. Additionally, every Tuesday in July, Janelle Lynnae, confidence coach and our STEMblazer of the Month, coached the students on their mindset, how to cultivate confidence through their posture & vibe, and taking action on their dreams.

On Thursdays, the students got to meet professionals from Ursa who talked to them about career opportunities in Aerospace, US Engineering who discussed the construction industry, Spartan College and McAir Aviation who introduced them to the possibilities in aviation, and Dr. Amy Keating who shared about her career in pediatric oncology.

Students also visited Spartan College and McAir Aviation to see planes up close, stand inside jet engines, and test propeller engines themselves in order to envision themselves flying the friendly skies or maintaining the aircraft that carry commercial passengers.

STEMblazers was able to reach students in spite of pandemic restrictions and being separated didn’t stop the girls from connecting with our guest speakers. We look forward to a new school year and reuniting with students in-person to further explore the varied possibilities of STEM!

This summer, we also hosted our 5th Annual Golf Tournament Fundraising at Arrowhead Golf Course and it was a great success. The day was filled with good energy and meaningful moments AND we surpassed our $50K fundraising goal! Thanks to the support of corporate partners, sponsors, volunteers, and staff we will be able to provide girls with more opportunities during the 2021-2022 school year. Finally, we got to show our appreciation to our volunteers who enjoy a high-tech golf game at a local entertainment venue. Our volunteers also had a chance to raise their confidence by the hand of Janelle Lynnae (now you see why she is our STEMblazer of the Summer!

Thank you all for a fantastic summer!
